Nakai Farm is a small, dedicated family business operated by Nakai-san and his father in Wazuka, Kyoto—a region legendary for its dramatic, steep tea landscapes. Together, they manage 23 distinct tea fields, navigating narrow, thrilling mountain paths by truck to tend to their crops.

Several years ago, Nakai-san made the brave choice to transition to entirely chemical-free farming to preserve the natural beauty of Wazuka. While this eco-conscious shift cut their annual yield in half (from 6,000kg to 3,000kg), their commitment to quality over quantity earned them high praise, including from a prestigious luxury hotel in Kyoto. Tokubetsu is incredibly proud to be the exclusive international partner bringing Nakai-san’s exceptional harvest outside of Japan.

The Magic of Houjicha

Houjicha is actually the very reason Tokubetsu was born—it was a personal necessity that simply couldn’t be found locally in Estonia.

While crafted from green tea leaves, the deep roasting process transforms the leaves into a rich brown color. This heat treatment strips away any bitterness and significantly lowers the caffeine content. In Japan, it is a beloved household staple that pairs wonderfully with any meal and can be enjoyed peacefully late into the evening.

Brewing Guide

To experience the full, comforting aroma of this tea, we recommend using filtered water. Japanese tea is traditionally crafted for soft water; using a filter helps the deep, toasty notes of the leaves shine through beautifully.

The Classic Warm Brew

• Tea: 4g (approx. 1.5 spoons)

• Water: 160ml at 100°C

• Steep Time: 30 seconds

Pro Tip: Using fully boiling water (100°C) is essential for Houjicha to instantly release its rich, nutty, and nostalgic roasted aroma.
