The Story of the “No-Good” Farm
Founded 70 years ago, Danouen (駄農園) carries a humble name with a proud history. The founder, Goro Takatsuka, was so obsessed with researching the perfect leaf that a friend jokingly called his business a “no-good farm” (da-nouen).
Today, the Takatsuka family honors that obsession with quality. Their teas are a favorite among connoisseurs and are a staple at Satén, Tokyo’s premier specialty tea cafe. We discovered their exceptional craft at the Shimokitazawa market and are proud to bring it to you via tokubetsu.eu.
Why Choose Danouen Sencha?
Unlike black teas that are withered and fermented, Japanese Sencha is steamed immediately after harvest. This locks in the vibrant green color and fresh, grassy aroma. At Danouen, the leaves are carefully rubbed during the drying process to release deep, nuanced flavors.
